GLOTTOTHEORY
International Journal of Theoretical Linguistics
Introduction
In October 2006, an international conference "Modern methods in linguistics" has been organized at the wonderful castle of Budmerice, Slovakia, to honour Prof. Gabriel Altmann on the occasion of his 75 anniversary. It was a good opportunity for Slovak scientists to do homage to their compatriot living in Germany, one of the founders of modern quantitative linguistics, author of a series of monographs and studies, promotor of several journals (e.g. Glottometrika and Glottometrics) but above all a personality having a school of scholars and followers all over the world.
The international interest in the conference, a number of contributions and our endeavour to give the results of the conference an official framework were a sufficient impulse for an idea and a concrete deed - the creation of the Glottotheory. Since every good idea arises in a dialogue, the name of the journal was created in Göttingen in a dialogue with Prof. S. Wichter , member of the editorial board. It is an honour for us that specialists in different domains like linguistics, philology, psycholinguistics, mathematics and informatics were ready to cooperate in the editorial board.
Characteristic : The Glottotheory is an international journal providing a forum for papers and discussions concerning methodological and theoretical problems of language and text, and empirical characterisation of language and text in qualitative or quantitative form:
observations and descriptions of all aspects of language and text phenomena including the areas of psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, dialectology, pragmatics, etc. on all levels of linguistic analysis,
applications of methods, models or findings from quantitative linguistics concerning problems of natural language processing, language teaching, documentation and information retrieval,
methodological problems of linguistic measurement, model construction, sampling and test theory,
epistemological issues such as explanation of language and text phenomena, contributions to theory construction, systems theory, philosophy of science.
The Glottotheory will appear twice a year. The deadlines are June 30 and December 30. It will have several domains: articles, reports, book reviews and surveys.
The editors have a right to return a contribution reviewed by the members of the editorial board to the author for revision.
The contributions will be reviewed by at least two members of the editorial board in written form. In order to survive, every new journal needs the cooperation of good contributors interested in the matter, an intelligent editorial board, a great circle of readers and good luck in overcoming different difficulties.
